These particular samples of rough sapphires and rubies are each between 12 - 21 carats and the finished cut stone usually yields around 25 - 35% of that, depending on the inclusions and the crystal growth patterns. This particular picture shows on the left side the natural growth patterns in a ruby at 30x magnification, while on the bottom-right you see the typical striae found in natural and on the top-right the growth-pattern striae of a synthetic sapphire through 30x magnification.

The top-left pictures shows the natural growth patterns in a ruby at 150x magnification, in the top-right you see the typical striae found in natural sapphire at 75x magnification and on the bottom a synthetic sapphire under 30x-loupe magnification, simply too clean and always suspicious to further investigate under a microscope. Every natural sapphire viewed under 30x-loupe will simply always reveal some sort of natural clues.
