Don't expect a natural ruby to be free of inclusions. The different traces of iron, titanium and chromium that gives rubies the intense dark red.
The colors of rubies are valued by three components, hue, saturation and tone. Hue is the color, saturation is the brightness and tone is the shade or depth of color. Like a sapphire, a ruby has primary and secondary hues. In rubies the primary hue is red with secondary hues of pinks, oranges and purples.
Generally, the majority of Madagascar rubies are subject to heat treatment to improve their color. High temperatures maximize the purity and intensity of their red hue. Impurities may dissolve or become less noticeable after heating. This process will only improve the color if the gemstone contains the proper chemistry. 80% of our mined rubies are natural, unheated, it is very rare and is a true treasure.
